Æpathicarae 04:08
Feast your eyes Sparkling TV vanity divine Sleight of hand and you'll believe Twist your mind Normalize hegemony with lies Hypnotic rhetoric Immoral acts, depravity Some shocking bit of news Our ratings climb, opinions fly The interesting views These words, they make for idle hands Our aim is to confuse Paralyze with anxiety Sow doubt inside, we're Æpəthicarae Grow the vine That immobilizes masses, makes supine Rooted in hypocrisy Feeds your mind So drink our wine We prey upon your need to be aligned Plant seeds of apathy We grow them live Charismatic predators Lurking in the weeds All our views are balanced news We'll get you to believe We're devils making idle hands It's you we will confuse Paralyzed, you lose your mind A scream inside, we're Æpəthicarae Anxiety, wells up inside Infect your mind, we're Æpəthicarae Feast your eyes Sparkling lies Upon our vine Æpəthicarae Hypnotized A scream inside Your anxious mind Æpəthicarae Æpəthicarae Æpəthicarae

I had a friend who saw things straight We used to stay up late Oh you gotta put on some weight I can see right through you Like a window in the sun Like a window, then you’re done Got a friend who always knows And the rest it never shows Don’t let him get too close He’ll see right through you Oh, he could see through anyone Like a window in the sun Lightning never touch the ground And we never made a sound And I still can’t gain a pound We used to stay up late And she’d say oh honey put on some weight I can see right through you

Spellbound 04:34
Wandering streets, a cool wind blows from the bridge below Alone, skipping cracks in the pavement Tear in her eye, people walk by with clouded minds Staring at the ground, absorbing the sound Thoughts race, fast as the cars that pass her by Morrissey sings, her headphones ring out Smiths beats She shuffles her feet, to the backbeat slides that make her high That healing sound, she turns around She walks her life in the limelight Radio and TV shows Scene on scene on the movie screen Endless days, life slipped away... He drives blind, daylight flows through the window Alone, hypnotized by the pavement Tear in his eye, pretends its from the sunlight And stares at the ground, absorbing the sound Thoughts race, he remembers a time he felt alive Morrissey sings, and his speakers thump out Smiths beats He taps his thigh, to the backbeat slides that make him high That healing sound, from all around and he Walks the line of a life unkind He went with the road he was left on Half alive in his 9 to 5 Endless days, life slipped away... They stand in line, back to back at the cafe Morrissey sings, and the speakers ring out Smiths beats Her hip slides by, as she sways to the slides that make her high That feel and sound, he turns around, and he's (Spellbound) She walks her life in the limelight (Spellbound) He came from the road he was left on (Spellbound) Like a famous scene on a movie screen He lifts a smile, her heart skips a beat and she's (Spellbound) Her movie roll, it comes to life, she's (Spellbound) The world around pales in her light, he's (Spellbound) No words exchanged they breathe in time Their troubled minds are healed tonight and they're spellbound (Spellbound) They're spellbound, they're spellbound, they're spellbound Spellbound

Rigor Mortis 05:52
I was always waiting for the ringing in my ears to stop Waiting for the other shoe to drop Waiting for Friday or October or bedtime The calendar on the wall was always way too long But there was always one more song One more day to sit quietly and watch the fireworks And nothing that I ever did Was ever bad enough for you Nothing that I ever said Could ever turn your head You always knew the wrong way to say the right line And I lived inside your unquiet mind With one foot resting gently on the brake And always angry words were hanging silently in space But nothing was ever out of place Except me when I awoke or came too close And nothing that I ever did Was ever bad enough for you Nothing that I ever said Could ever turn your head

Only three on momma’s knee, a fruit from a flower In her hands it all began, spent hour after hour Giggling and learning things to emulate her style Growing older, getting bolder, watching mother smile Into the forest they would stride excitement on their face Another day together in this solitary place Hiked along roots and logs, meadows golden fire Swam naked in the waterfalls, never seemed to tire Thirteen became the queen of lilies and the shire Momma donned her crown of yellow flowers held with wire Pixie dust and elephants, the stories that she heard Took it in on momma’s tree absorbing every word In their place where time and space fell silent through the hours Except the song of a bullfrog, cicadas in the flowers Seventeen the world seemed boundless with desire Life’s plans all began, roots aglow with fire College-bound, out of town, mother wasn’t there Never lost love for her, didn’t have a care Thoughts formed letters, written every day Hide them in an old tin can her own peculiar way Letters to her friends and loves, letters to her mom Street lights, bar fights, things she saw At twenty-one like gunshots, dreams burned into smoke A crumpled up receipt, doctor’s words, her mother’s coat Took her momma’s hand in hers determined with a smile Led her through that forest, walked with her for awhile To their place where time and space fell silent through the hours The welcome song of a bullfrog, cicadas in the flowers Leaves rained softly as autumn set in Collected souls, who they for, filed the papers thin Scattered words fallen from the devil’s lips remained Let them blow from forest floor to not be seen again And when the tree fell silently in forest she remained The lonely song of a bullfrog cicadas sang refrain Carefully embraced the tree, carved it in a box And from that old tin can pulled her letters in a lock Twenty eight fallen leaves scattered in the dust Breathed them in a calming wind her blood turned to rust And in their place time and space fell silent once again Song of cicadas haunting on the wind On the wind a song began A message taking shape A memory, golden dreams A crown of flowers, her momma’s face Hold me in your heart, love No teardrops only smiles Swim naked in waterfalls Breathe pixie dust, retrace our miles Come to our place past time and space Remember loving hours You’ll find me with the bullfrogs Cicadas in the flowers

Dromologue 03:11
I met a new friend at the library He brought out all the paranoia that was living in me He told me ‘bout the riddle of technology And the accidental power of history He said the faster we go, the less we know Ooh, the faster we go, the less we know He took me for a ride on a speeding train We went from Paris through the mountains to the north of Spain They threw us on the platform in the driving rain But not before they washed and Martinized our brains The faster we go, the less we know Ooh, the faster we go, the less we know Next thing I remember we were set on cruise Looking for a hyperdromocratic muse Speeding round the galaxy like Howard Hughes His story had a logic I could not refuse His story had a logic I could not refuse The faster we go, the less we know The faster we go, the less we know Ooh, the faster we go, the less we know Ooh, the faster we go, the less we know

Genevieve 03:49
Daylight breaks It’s another day, the same old place Still haunted by your smiling face As time slips past I agonize so quietly What could we be? What could we be? Genevieve, what can I do Madly, I’m in love with you You don’t see me in the crowd I’m too shy to cry it out Yet here I am, a lonely place Contemplate your warm embrace I’ll follow you, I’ll follow you I don’t know what else to do See you dance tonight I steal a glance and close my eyes Let daydreams take flight Pulsing lights Through eyelids spark my fantasies A polaroid forms instantly Picture perfect you and me Picture perfect you and me Picture perfect you and me Song by song All the others come and go You dance with them, but they don’t know you Night moves on I watch you from the balcony Oh, why not me, dear Genevieve? Genevieve, you’re not their kind Others have a one-track mind Dance away the blinding madness They all only offer sadness Spend your days another way What can I say? What can I say? One last time so quietly I watch you from the balcony One last chance - one night Take a breath or lose my mind Anxiety inside I’m too shy Pulsing lights shine down on me I think I saw you look at me Trembling like blowing leaves I can’t believe it's happening Can’t believe you noticed me and smiled The last dance Our first night Feel your hand wrapped up in mine I close my eyes a smile ignites The first time your healing light Memories like golden dreams Can’t believe it’s happening Never thought you’d notice me Saw you staring back at me Tell me what you see in me Tell me what you see in me Tell me what you see in me Tell me what you see in me Genevieve, my Genevieve Tell me what you see in me Now you are my Genevieve Now you are my Genevieve Tell me what you see in me Tell me what you see in me Just being kind, can I believe? Tell me what you see in me Tell me what you see in me

Fade to Red 03:08
Breathe deeply, close my eyes Let the warm wind wash my face Thoughts race through my mind Silence echoes through this place Breathing deeply you close your eyes Feel the wind that warms your face Troubled thoughts invade your mind Echoed memories you can’t erase As the sunlight fades to red Early stars light your face Pictures of you burn in my head As you smile at me with grace The colors fade to red As the sun falls from the sky New light comes shining through The moonlight shines down through The doubts that cloud your head Feel the power that binds me to you Beating heart, your trembling hands Reach out to touch my arm Ask yourself, is this the start Should you let yourself believe The colors fade to red As the sun falls from the sky New light comes shining through Breathe deeply, we close our eyes Feel the wind that warms our face Troubled thoughts fall from our minds New memories fill their place As the sunlight fades to red

Calling Eyes 03:14
And they warn you not to trust your own two eyes And they mandate what you may not emphasize And they tell you you must not criticize But their words say colonize Don’t look away Oh, oh, oh, colonize Oh, oh, colonize Oh, oh, colonize Their words say colonize And they tell you it is weak to empathize And they say you must ignore the mothers’ cries And they swear and swear that the father terrorize But their words say colonize And I see them Oh, oh, oh, colonize Oh, oh, colonize Oh, oh, colonize Their words say colonize And they’re watching us when we rise up And they’re watching us when we give up And they’re watching us, watching us When we are watching them watching us die So we’re calling eyes, don’t look away Calling eyes, don’t look away Calling eyes, don’t look away Calling eyes, don’t look away

Measures 05:53
Bleary-eyed, tossing memory from side to side Looking for an easy way, a hard way, any way Weary-eyed, doubts arise as voices amplify What happens to the amends we cannot make And the measures we cannot take? Do they fly away into the bright sunlight Or do they hide away Only to reappear in the dark of night? Friday night never gives up without a fight As the ghosts of long-gone worlds linger in the doorway As if they might lock you in forever What happens to the amends we cannot make And the measures we cannot take? Do they fly away into the bright sunlight Or do they hide away Only to reappear in the dark of night? Bleary-eyed, tossing memory from side to side Bleary-eyed, tossing memory from side to side Oh bleary-eyed, tossing memory from side to side In the dark of night In the dark of night In the dark of night In the dark of night In the dark of night

about

The years between 2018 and 2022 were rife with civil unrest and personal uncertainty. Rising police violence in the U.S., reinvigoration of bigotry and political polarization within the American public, growing social unrest and fear, exploding global conflicts, and an extended pandemic resulted in lasting damage to the collective consciousness. During this time, we were driven to isolation and forced to confront the plastic, throw-away tragedy of our shallow, modern lives. From this cloud of turmoil emerged You Are the Host Now, a collection of songs of inner reflection, outer rage, infatuation, desperation, love, loss, despair, and hope, all inspired by our 80s-era post-punk and new wave influences. From the opening track “Æpəthicarae”, which rises against the global media machine that fills our days, to the melancholic “Measures”, borne of the fears and doubts that haunt our nights, You Are the Host Now is a timeless epitaph on the stone of an era that has slipped by but will haunt us for decades to come.
